Developed through GR10K's ongoing research into industrial workwear, protective clothing and modular garment systems, the FR Klopman MARS Plaid Welding Overshirt reinterprets the traditional welder's shirt through contrasting occupational textiles and detachable components. Combining heavyweight fire-retardant cotton with wool-blend plaid, the garment explores the relationship between industrial protective clothing and adaptable everyday workwear.

Constructed from Klopman MARS FR Cotton Satin, a heavyweight 420 g/m² industrial fabric originally developed for fire-retardant workwear applications, the overshirt undergoes an intensive laundering and stone-washing process that significantly alters its original finish. The treatment produces a softened, heavily worked handle while retaining the substantial character and structure of the original cotton textile.

Cut to an oversized silhouette, the garment features a contrasting wool-blend plaid panel across the back, constructed from the same textile used in the GR10K Somma Wool Plaid Hoodie. The rear panel can be unbuttoned and removed, allowing the garment to transition between a conventional occupational overshirt and a contrasting multi-material configuration. A detachable plaid collar further extends the system, enabling the two components to be worn independently, together or removed entirely.

The modular construction allows the garment's appearance, material composition and wearing configuration to be altered without changing the underlying overshirt silhouette. Finished with a Klopman fabric flag, identifying the industrial provenance of the original cotton textile.
